Field Journal Blog

Journal #1:

On Tuesday, April 11th, I went to the Pharo Park with my son to enjoy such a beautiful spring day. The sun is shining bright on this gorgeous 75 degree day. It is approximately 1:36 PM as I am sitting on the park bench enjoying my son run around and play on the slides. I decided to sit on the park bench located right next to the playground my son, Carter, was playing on. Around me was a baseball field, basketball court, tennis court, and tons of trees. I sat on the park bench thinking to myself how truthfully blessed and thankful I was that god blessed me with my son. Carter is my pride and joy. He is my motivation and true reason in life. As I was sitting on the bench watching him run around with a huge smile on his face, my heart just melted. I am motivated and determined to keep pushing forward no matter what life my throw my way. I have learned that in just a short 20 minutes at the park could bring so many thoughts and emotions running through my head. It made me realize how grateful I really am.

Jornal #2:

On Friday, April 14th, I decided to take an spontanous adventure alone to Monocracy Park because I did not have my son for the night. It was 5:34 PM when I parked my car is a small parking lot across from the park. It was a beautiful 67 degree spring night. Surrounding me was a bunch of nature. Including trees, dirt, grass, bugs, water, benches, cars driving past, as well as others walking through the park on such a beautiful night. As I sat on the bench near the water and a huge tree, I was thinking about how grateful of a life I have with never ending support from my loved ones. not only was I thinking about that but also about where I want to be in life and how I need to get there. I want my son to have the life that he deserves. I have learned how relaxing and rewarding it is to take 20 minutes out of my day to just relax in a quite place and think. Think about anything and everything that comes to my mind. I felt like I was free from everything and anyone.

Personal account: (4/16/17):

I have learned a lot from our two field journals. Both of my journals reflect each other in similar ways. I have learned that taking 20 minutes out of my day and just relaxing could bring so much to my mind. Both of my journals reflect my son, Carter, in different factors. My son is my whole world, my motivation, and my determination. I worry about him growing up in this crazy world and want nothing but the absolute best for him at all times. I want to provide him everything he needs in life. I am a very hard worker and strive for what I want. In my life I have had many personal and family matters thrown my way. Some I was able to handle and some were completely destroying me inside. No matter what I know I can get though them with my son by my side. I have learned how grateful I am of the wonderful life I was given and I will not let anything get in my way of achieving what I want to. All in all, I never thought siting out in nature could be so relaxing and rewarding. I am going to do this more often because it really changed my thought process.

Campus Resource!

For our Literacy Narrative writing assignment I wanted to get some advice on my paper as well as ways I could improve my assignment before I turned it in. I decided to use the online writing center because I never have time to physically come to school and use the writing center one on one with a tutor. I have a crazy world outside of just school. I have never used a writing tutor in my life but I thought I would give it a chance. I submitted my paper online on a Saturday and believe it or not got it back in 24 hours exactly! I was amazed at how fast I received my assignment back. It was so simple and easy to submit my assignment. All I had to do was explain what the assignment was as well as attach my assignment so my tutor could help me the best that she could. Shannon Tompkins revised my Literacy Narrative and she was truly amazing. She read and reviewed my entire paper and left me notes of how she thought I should fix my assignment. Just the little comments she left made such a huge improvement and I felt as if my assignment was brand new. I would recommend using Shannon for your online writing tutor. Getting advice and reviews from others then just yourself can help improve an assignment. You may think your assignment is perfect just as it is but I promise you if you ask for help from a peer it can be even stronger! I would recommend the online writing tutoring to everyone. I will defiantly be using the online writing center throughout my years at Northampton Community College, it was so beyond helpful.

Home Sweet Home!

The place where one lives permanently, especially as a member of a family or household is considered a home. As you grow older home can become more then one place depending on the individual. That can be with family, friends, or a soulmate. As you grow older home can change, you can lose a relationship with your parents, move out, or go to college and decided once you graduate you want to be on your own. Home to me is at my parents house with my mom, dad, brother, and son. I have lived there all 20 years of my life and have such special memories in the house I will never forget. Home to me is a very special place. Home to me is a place where you spend quality time with both your family or friends. It is where I spend special time with my family and son. We always have dinner together every night, we have game nights, and movie nights. All though I may not be there all the time bemuse of work, school, or other priorities I hold it very close to my heart. Home is what you make of it and I cherish my home. My family is my back bone and always picks me up when I'm about to break. I one day hope to move into a house with my boyfriend and son so that we can call it home together as a small family. Although, my parents house will ALWAYS be considered home to me. Another place I call home would be work and school. I spend 3-4 days a week at work and the rest of the time I am at school studying so I can graduate and make my son proud. Home is what you make of it and I choose to make the best of it. Life is to short to take anything for granted.

My journey throughout life

Liberty High School
From elementary school to high school the education, learning content, and expectations have changed tremendously. I attended Asa Packer Elementary school and  Liberty High School. Both schools are located in Bethlehem Pennsylvania. My parents have always supported me and pushed me to be the best I could be in school and without them school wouldn't be possible.  My parents once said to me "nothing comes easy in life, but as long as you work hard and follow your dreams anything in life is possible." As I look back now on the great education and teachers I had growing up, I would not be where I am today in life without them. They have taught me many different things such as simple mathematics, how to read at may different levels, how to write my name, how to write in sentences, and how to write in cursive. One thing I always struggled with was writing in cursive but all the hard work I did outside of school helped me conquer writing in cursive. As I look back on school, i don't just think about the content I have learned but I remember all of the great friends I have made and relationships I have built with teachers over the years. I remember all of the fun things we did in elementary school to help us socialize with one another. From all the book fairs, field days (they were my favorite!), going shopping at the little gift shop for our family members during christmas, as well as all the amazing fundraisers we did. High school on the other hand was not all fun and games. High school focused on higher education and helping prepare you for the next level of education, college. Looking back on school today, I realize all the great friends I have made, all the big and little steps that have helped me throughout life, as well as all of the learning content I have learned that will help me through college and beyond. Education is a huge part of life and will follow you wherever you go in life.

Meet Janeiah!

Last Tuesday I had the privilege of meeting a handful of new people and getting to know one of my classmates, Janeiah. Janeiah is 17 years old and currently attends Liberty High School in Bethlehem Pennsylvania. She will be graduating high school this year, 2017. Janeiah is currently apart of the duel enrollment program at Northampton Community College. She got chosen through Liberty High School as 1 of 4 students who were eligible to take a college course. Duel enrollment gives the opportunity to high school students to take college classes while still being in high school. The college course they take will then transfer to whatever college they choose to go to after they graduate. While being a full time student, Janeiah works at McDonalds. She hates working there but they work very well with her schedule. She has a younger brother that is 15 years old and would love to take a family vacation to Florida because they have never gone on a vacation before. Janeiah intends on returning to Northampton Community Collage after high school to major in culinary arts. Janeiah fell in love with culinary back in 10th grade when she started taking culinary classes at vo-tech. She is a very hands on learner and believes cooking would be a great fit for her. Her favorite food to cook is steak, seafood, chicken, mashed potatoes, and vegetables (yummy!!). After graduating from Northampton Community College, Janeiah plans on attending CIA collage located in New York. She had the opportunity of walking through the campus with her vo-tech class. She loved the collage campus and throughout it was absolutely beautiful! After Janeiah is done with college and pursuing her dreams, she one day would like to settle down and start a family.

I really enjoyed getting to know Janeiah! she is a very nice young lady who has such a bright future ahead of her.
